The story of the little iridescent bat Bettsy
Deep in the Eternal Forest, where ancient trees rustled their brilliant leaves in the breeze and the gentle mist shimmered in the colors of twilight, lived a special bat. Her name was Bettsy, and she was different from all the others. While her fellow bats had dark, inconspicuous fur that camouflaged them perfectly at night, Bettsy's fur glowed in mysterious colors: a deep blue like the night sky above Eldoria, a brilliant red like the blossoms of the phoenix orchid, and a warm gold like the light of the floating will-o'-the-wisps that illuminated the forest.
As beautiful as Bettsy was, she often felt out of place. The other bats regarded her with concern. "You're too conspicuous," said an old bat one night as they rested together in their cave. "Your iridescence might attract predators. It's not safe to be so different."
Bettsy tried to adapt. She flew more cautiously, staying hidden in the darkest corners of the forest, and avoided gliding in the moonlight where her fur shone in all its glory. But deep down, she felt that she wasn't meant to hide.
One night, when the other bats were already resting, Bettsy flew deeper into the forest, where even the bravest creatures of Eldoria rarely ventured. She followed the gentle glow of the Silver Stream, which flowed through the landscape like a ribbon of liquid light. Finally, she reached a clearing where a small, clear pond lay. Its water reflected the starry sky, as if it were a gateway to another world.
Bettsy perched on a branch and looked at her reflection. Her fur glowed in the darkness—beautiful, but also so different. She sighed softly. "Why am I like this? Why can't I just be normal?"
There was a gentle rustling sound, and a delicate figure emerged from the shadows. A dragonfly with translucent wings, shimmering in the same colors as Bettsy's fur, landed beside her.
"You are beautiful," said the dragonfly in a clear, melodious voice. "Why are you hiding?"
Bettsy lowered her gaze. "The others say my glow is dangerous. That it puts us in danger."
The dragonfly laughed softly, its wingbeats causing delicate dots of light to dance on the water's surface. "Do you know what iridescence really means? It shows that you carry light and shadow within you. You can hide in the world's colors or surprise it with your beauty. Your radiance is a gift—you just have to learn how to use it properly."
Bettsy thought about these words for a long time as she flew back to the cave. And one day she would do just that.
A thick wall of fog settled over the Eternal Forest, so impenetrable that even the most experienced bats could no longer find their way. The darkness was oppressive, the silence frightening. The other bats fluttered uncertainly, searching for a way out, but nothing could be seen except the impenetrable gray of the fog.
Then Bettsy remembered the dragonfly's words.
She spread her wings and flew upwards. Her iridescent fur caught the faint light of the will-o'-the-wisps, reflecting it in blue, red, and gold. The colors danced in the mist, creating a luminous path for the others to follow. One by one, the bats found their way out of the dark cave—guided by Bettsy, whose light illuminated the way for them.
From that day on, the other bats looked at Bettsy with new eyes. She was no longer just the bat who was different—she was the one who showed them the way when everything else fell into darkness.
And so Bettsy continued to fly through the nights of Eldoria, proud of her iridescent fur, which was not only beautiful but also her greatest gift.
